Welcome to Interscript

Interscript is a purely visual communication system based on symbols and independent of any particular language. It covers the most frequent concepts in general use and combines the principles of hieroglyphs with conventions established in modern Highway, Safety and Tourist Codes.

Interscript can be adapted to act as a pictorial mnemonic to the 'key' words of any particular language as a literacy tool. All the symbols can be copied simply by hand from examples printed in A5 loose-leaf format for easy reproduction on paper, card, blackboard or other teaching aids to help those with learning disabilities.

These principles can also be applied to literacy programmes in other languages and trial selections are available in French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese & Japanese based on the contents of children’s books from these countries. Schemes for Greek, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Turkish, Farsi, Urdu and a number of African languages are in the course of preparation.

It may well be possible to base self teaching adult illiteracy programmes on similar schemes using a background of familiar cultural images to increase motivation. A prototype scheme for Spanish in Hispano America is in preparation.

Interscript can also be used to assist foreign Language learning by the introduction of self-revealing texts. The lexical content is based on research into basic language as described in 'Grundwortschatz Deutsch' published by Klett Verlag Stuttgart comparing such vocabulary in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
